Biography

Mathilde is a visiting PhD candidate from the Uniklinikum Erlangen, Germany. She studies the effect of unloading experienced in bed rest and microgravity studies, on the knee joint more specifically at the interface between bone and cartilage, which are highly interconnected tissues. Her research aims to characterize the structural impact of unloading and the beneficial effect of countermeasures thanks to high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessments. By studying healthy participants, this work will isolate the effects of unloading, allowing structural alterations attributable to diseases such as osteoarthritis to be distinguished from those induced by unloading alone.
